SYMPHONY INTERNATIONAL HOLDINGS LIMITED
S$45.8 MILLION INVESTMENT IN SINGAPORE LISTED PARKWAY LIFE REIT
Symphony International Holdings Limited ('Symphony') today announced that it
has, through its wholly owned subsidiary Britten Holdings Pte. Ltd., subscribed
for 35.8 million units at an aggregate offer price of S$45,824,000 (US$29.9
million) in the initial public offering of Parkway Life Real Estate Investment
Trust ('Parkway Life REIT' or the 'REIT').
Parkway Life REIT invests primarily in income producing healthcare and
healthcare-related properties and real estate assets in the Asia-Pacific region.
The REIT is established and managed by Parkway Holdings Limited. Listed in
Singapore, Parkway Holdings is one of Asia's premier, fully integrated
healthcare providers, with one of the largest networks of hospitals and
healthcare services in the region. Parkway Holdings has at least a 30.1%
interest in the REIT at the close of its initial public offering. Two members of
Symphony's investment advisory group serve on the board of Parkway Holdings,
including Mr. Sunil Chandiramani who is also a Director of Symphony.
The REIT's initial investment portfolio includes long term lease holdings of
properties of Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital and East Shore
Hospital owned by Parkway Holdings as well as a number of related medical centre
units. The properties are leased-back to Parkway Holdings group as the operator
of the hospitals.
Parkway Life REIT plans to capitalise on an increasing number of potential
acquisition opportunities for healthcare and healthcare-related assets in Asia,
as traditional healthcare providers divest their real estate assets to reinvest
the proceeds in their core competence of providing healthcare services. The
REIT has a right of first refusal for an initial 5-year term, subject to
extension, over future sales by Parkway Holdings of its healthcare or
healthcare-related assets in the Asia-Pacific region.
Parkway Life REIT is listed on the Main Board of the Singapore Exchange
Securities Trading Limited.
