DAT Group PLC

For immediate release: 21 April 2005
DAT GROUP PLC
ACQUISITION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND TECHNOLOGIES FROM WEBLICON
TECHNOLOGIES AG (IN RECEIVERSHIP)
'Investment will reduce future operating costs for the consumer Tabella product
and also extend the breadth of the Synchronica SyncML potential clients'
DAT Group plc ('DAT' or 'the Company'), a developer and licenser of mobile
device management software, announces the acquisition through its wholly owned
subsidiary, Synchronica Software GmbH ('Synchronica') of various assets
including the intellectual property, trademarks and software from weblicon
technologies AG ('Weblicon') currently in receivership.
Weblicon was established in Berlin in May 2000. Up until early 2005 when
Weblicon stopped trading, it raised in excess of €3.8 million from a range of
investors to develop and license web-based applications for portals, internet
service providers and Telcos. These included a range of Personal Information
Management products ('PIM') capable of being integrated into existing networks
of servers, applications and databases incorporating synchronisation 'over the
air' based on the SyncML industry standard. The Weblicon products included a
complete organiser and messaging solution with address book, calendar, e-mail,
group SMS and MMS as well as a broad range of SyncML clients for PCs, Personal
Digital Assistants ('PDAs') and mobile devices.
These assets, including all software rights and the 'Weblicon' trademark and
domain name ('the Weblicon assets'), have been acquired by Synchronica for
approximately €163,000 in cash (paid on completion). Amongst other benefits this
acquisition will allow DAT to reduce its operating overheads in the consumer
edition of its Tabella offering by incorporating its own proprietary PIM as part
of the total offering and not having to license the use of alternative PIM
products. In addition, the acquisition increases the breadth of SyncML clients
extending the reach of Tabella and Synchronica products to any desktop PC
running Apple Mac OS or Microsoft Windows (using Lotus Notes, Microsoft Outlook,
Microsoft Outlook Express), PDAs or other mobile devices using Palm OS or
Microsoft Windows Mobile (Pocket PC and Smartphone).
Commenting on the transaction, David Hayes, DAT's Chief Executive, said 'This
investment will reduce future operating costs for the consumer Tabella product
and also extend the breadth of the Synchronica SyncML potential clients.'
