Quadnetics Group plc ("Quadnetics" or the "Group")
5 November 2008
Directorate Change and Trading Update
Quadnetics announces that Russ Singleton is stepping aside as Chief
Executive to focus more closely on product development and
technology, where he has a long history of valuable contributions to
the Company. He will remain on the Group's board as an executive
director.
John Shepherd, aged 54, is today joining the Group's board and
succeeding Russ as Chief Executive. John's strong track record
includes building a world leading transport, security and military
detection systems business for Smiths Group plc as Managing Director
of their Smiths Detection division. Subsequently he was appointed as
Chief Executive of First Technology Group plc, where he built up a
substantial gas sensor and detection systems business which led to
the company ultimately being acquired at a high share valuation.
Over the coming months, Russ and John will work closely together to
ensure an orderly and positive transition, and to provide increased
capability and momentum towards delivering Quadnetics' growth
objectives.
In the short term, the trading environment for the Group's businesses
has become significantly more uncertain since mid-September. Within
the UK banking, defence and retail sectors, the Group has experienced
customer requests for delayed delivery of existing orders and
indications of delays or cancellations of expected orders. Activity
in the transport, oil & gas and high security sectors is currently
holding up well. The Board is assuming that the deepening general
market downturn will continue for some time and, on that basis, now
believes it is likely that the Group's results for the year ending 31
May 2009 will be below current market expectations. A fuller update
will be provided in the interim results announcement expected at the
end of January.
David Coghlan, Chairman of Quadnetics, commented:
"Russ Singleton is the founder and inspirational driving force behind
Quadnetics' core business. He has built the business over more than
20 years and, since its move to AIM in 2002, has led the Group in
achieving through organic growth and acquisitions a five-fold
increase in turnover and substantial profits. He is a remarkable
entrepreneurial leader.
"Now that the Group has reached its current scale and diversity, Russ
will be re-directing his considerable talents to focus more on
specific areas critical to the Group's future growth.
"John Shepherd has an impressive record in building mid-to-large
scale technology businesses. Those successes reflect skills that will
be particularly valuable to Quadnetics in the next phase of its
development. The Board looks forward to working with him and all the
senior executive team to take maximum advantage in the current
environment of our leading market positions and strong balance sheet,
and to build further on those strengths."
