Re: Communication dated December 15, 2023, received from Uttar Pradesh State Pollution Control Board
This has reference to the aforementioned subject.
A letter dated December 15, 2023, has been received by Tata Steel Limited ('Company') having reference number bearing No. HO4247/C-1/Water-121/S.C.N/Revoke/2023 from Uttar Pradesh State Pollution Control Board ("UPPCB") on December 26, 2023, imposing an environmental damage compensation ("EDC") of ₹6,75,000/- (Rupees Six Lac Seventy Five Thousand only) under Section 27 (2) read with section 33 (A) of The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974, in respect of the Sahibabad Plant at Plot no, 23, site IV.
The EDC is imposed and as a consequence revokes the earlier show cause notice dated
May 19, 2023, as was received by the Company on May 23, 2023.
The Company has paid the EDC on December 27, 2023, to the relevant authorities, on a "without prejudice" basis.
