Tate & Lyle PLC was informed on 3 July 2001 that 14 Tate & Lyle Ordinary
shares were acquired at 280 pence each share on 2 July 2001 for a
discretionary corporate personal equity plan owned by Mr S Gifford who is an
executive director of Tate & Lyle PLC. Mr Gifford now has an interest in
154,950 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
