Tate & Lyle PLC was informed on 20 December 2001 by the Manager of the Tate &
Lyle PLC Corporate Personal Equity Plans ('PEPs') that on 17 December 2001
purchases of Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares were made at a price of 345 pence per
share for the three Directors of Tate & Lyle PLC detailed below.
16 Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares were bought for PEPs owned by Mr S Gifford who
now has an interest in 155,282 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
5 Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares were bought for PEPs owned by Mr S Strathdee who
now has an interest in 17,689 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
6 Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares were bought for PEPs owned by Mr J H W Walker
who now has an interest in 25,257 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
