Tate & Lyle announces a grant of options under its 1992 approved savings
related share option scheme.  The date of grant was 3 December 1999 and the
option price is 345 pence.  The options are for 3, 5 or 7 years duration
commencing on 1 March 2000.  A 5 year option over 978 shares was granted to Mr
S Gifford, an executive director.  Mr Gifford now holds options over 265,233
Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
