Tate & Lyle PLC was informed on 29 March 2001 that Newstarch Investments SA
(NSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Compagnie Industrielle et Financiere des
Produits Amylaces SA (CIP) now hold 48,183,913 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle
PLC which is a notifiable interest under Section 198 of the Companies Act
1985, being 10.00 per cent of the nominal value of the relevant share capital,
increased from their holding on 22 December 2000 of 48,083,913 Ordinary shares
which was then 9.98 per cent of the nominal value of the relevant share
capital.
