PLACING OF 48,350,000 SHARES IN TATE & LYLE PLC ('Tate & Lyle' or the 'Company')

Hoare Govett Limited has placed 48,350,000 ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle,
representing 9.96% of the issued share capital of the Company and the entire
interest of the Compagnie Industrielle et Financiere des Produits Amylaces S.A.
and its subsidiaries in the ordinary share capital of Tate & Lyle. The shares
have been placed with institutional investors at a price of 450p per share.
