Colchester Garrison Land Acquisition
Taylor Woodrow, the housing and development company, has today exchanged
contracts to purchase 209 acres of former MOD land for housing and commercial
development at Colchester Garrison from the RMPA Services Consortium (1), which
leads the Colchester Garrison PFI project.
The purchase of the land will be phased over the next 5-6 years. Once complete
the site will contain just over 2,500 residential units and 11 acres of
commercial land. The total site is 209 gross acres of which 135 acres will be
developed.
Taylor Woodrow will be the master developer and will service the whole site and,
in addition to its own housing developments, may dispose of serviced land
parcels to other developers at the appropriate time.
The site benefits from a 15 year outline planning permission with a signed
section 106 agreement, specifying the provision of certain pre-agreed amenities.
Work will commence in the summer of 2004 with the first house sales expected
within 12 months.
Commenting on this land acquisition Iain Napier, Chief Executive of Taylor
Woodrow, said, 'Colchester Garrison provides us with a significant amount of
brownfield land in an excellent location enabling us to add value through design
and our position as a master developer and volume housebuilder.'
