TAYLOR WOODROW CONSOLIDATES PREMIER LEAGUE POSITION WITH £20 MILLION WEST HAM
UNITED CONTRACT
The Construction division of Taylor Woodrow plc, the international developer,
has won a £20 million redevelopment contract at West Ham United FC's Upton
Park ground.
The contract, which consolidates Taylor Woodrow Construction's position as a
leader in stadium construction and redevelopment, comprises a new five-storey
West Stand of around 16,000 seating capacity arranged on two tiers, and bay
extensions to both the Centenary and Bobby Moore Stands.
Work will commence immediately to the rear of the current West Stand, enabling
the stand to be used throughout the 2000/2001 season. At the end of the
season, the stand will be demolished to allow completion of both the front of
the new stand and the Centenary and Bobby Moore Stand extensions.
The extensions are required as the pitch is to be moved 15 metres towards the
new West Stand during the close season of 2001/2002. This in turn will enable
the East Stand to be demolished and replaced with a larger capacity stand to
achieve the 40,000 seating capacity the Club ultimately requires.
Taylor Woodrow has been retained as part of the team to develop the design of
the new East Stand, as well as to undertake work at the Club's training
ground. These additional projects are subject to separate contract.
Denis Mac Daid, Managing Director of Taylor Woodrow Construction, said 'This
major contract win is a strong endorsement of our strategy to focus on a few
core areas where we both enjoy good market positions and can apply our
expertise and service driven approach to deliver best solutions for our
Clients. We have an outstanding track record in the stadium market, having
recently completed new stadia for Middlesbrough FC and Derby County FC, and
see further solid opportunities in this market in the years ahead.'
Taylor Woodrow is a leader in international housing and property, supported by
specialist construction expertise. In the year ended 31 December 1999 it had
total revenues of £1.5 billion and pre-tax profits of £125 million.
