                          APPOINTS FINANCE DIRECTOR


Hemel Hempstead, UK: Fulcrum Pharma plc (LSE: FUL), the independent, drug
development company, today announces the recent appointment of Geoffrey Smith
as Finance Director. Geoffrey has been Financial Controller of Fulcrum since
the Company's admission to AIM in March 2000 - he now joins the Main Board
with immediate effect.

Geoffrey Smith (47) brings Fulcrum Pharma 17 years' experience of working in
Finance Director / Controller roles, in a range of companies, from a variety
of sectors - this has enabled him to gain a wide range of experience both in
the private and public sector.  In addition to the position as Finance
Director of Fulcrum Pharma, Geoffrey is also Finance Director of AIM listed
RexOnline plc and Bank Restaurant Group plc.

Geoffrey qualified from KPMG in July 1979 and is an Associate of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Commenting on the new board appointment, Dr Jon Court, Chief Executive Officer

a stage of development where the finance role now requires a Main Board

Geoffrey Smith was a director of Roak Food Group Plc which went into
administrative receivership in June 1995 and was a director of Castles
Wisehouse Limited to which an Administrative Receiver was appointed in June
1990. Geoffrey Smith resigned as a director of Revelation Piccadilly Holdings
plc on 30 September 1998, which went into administrative receivership in March
1999.
