Torex Retail PLC announces significant new business wins in the final quarter of
2006
Torex Retail PLC, the leading global retail systems provider, is pleased to
announce a number of significant and strategically important business wins
across its divisions in the fourth quarter of 2006.
The fourth quarter of 2006 saw the Group build on the new 5 business unit
structure and the appointment of divisional CEOs. This has helped to create
both operational control and market focus which in turn has driven performance
in the second half.
The Group remains well placed to build on its outstanding market position,
customer base and leading technologies. As previously indicated, further
synergistic gains are expected in both revenue and costs from the acquisitions
previously completed to complement the organic growth that will arise most
notably from increasing the penetration of Torex software products across the
existing customer base, and from new business wins.
Torex Retail Plc is constrained by customer confidentiality requirements from
releasing full contract details, exact technology applications and pricing data
however we are pleased to present an overview of recent contract wins with as
much detail as is commercially prudent:-
Contract wins
Retail Businesses
This division is announcing more than £80 million of new contracts and renewals
in the second half of 2006.
The UK Division has secured major new Retail-J contracts with Wyvale Garden
Centre, Home Retail Group and Swarovski. Additionally, contracts have been
secured with Reiss, The Range, 99p Stores, and Ethel Austin as well as renewing
a significant IT outsourcing contract with WH Smith Travel.
The deployment into Home Retail Group (Homebase and Argos) will see Torex roll
out its Retail-J EPoS solution across 683 stores with implementation scheduled
to commence in 2007. The significant multi-million pound contract also includes
a 10 year maintenance and support agreement.
2007 will also see Torex Retail implement its first global deployment of
Retail-J into speciality crystal retailer Swarovski across 660 stores in 30
countries in a software and services deal worth in excess of £2.5 million.
Other significant gains for the second half of 2006 include the roll out of a
merchandise planning upgrade, hardware refresh and a Chip & PIN solution into
value fashion retailer Ethel Austin in a deal worth £680,000.
2007 will also see Torex deploy a loss prevention solution into fashion retailer
Reiss as well as deploying EPoS into new stores
The company has also been successful in its bid to renew a multi-million pound
IT outsourcing contract with WH Smith Travel until 2011. The deal covers more
than 200 UK stores at airports and railway stations throughout the UK. Torex
Retail will also service WH Smith's national distribution centre in Birmingham
and head office in central London.
In the Americas, business growth continues to be driven by both increased sales
from existing customers (Stein Mart, Meryn's, IKEA, BJ's Wholesale Clubs,
Forever 21, Academy Sports and Outdoors, The Picture People, Roche Brothers
Supermarkets, Duty Free Americas, Safeway and French Connection) and new
business wins (Bed Bath and Beyond, Gottschalks, Levis Strauss and National
Wholesale Liquidators). Contracts with existing customers have been signed to
both grow traditional revenues, and to develop additional revenue streams
through cross-selling and deepening the customer relationship.
New customer wins for the ISIS supermarket EPOS software includes Marukai
Corporation California, Hearty Foods and KTA Supermarkets.
The European division has secured some significant new business in the second
half of 2006. New business wins have included Richemont, Intermarche, Bauhaus,
Esprit, Tedi, Woolworth, Gerry Weber, Norma, De Verbrand, and Maxeda (1200
EPOS), and in the period, major roll-outs have featured for clients such as
Dutch Post Office, Finnish Post Office, Marktkauf and Nokia 'Store of the
Future'.
Hospitality and QSR
This division includes the former XN and Savista business units.
In Hospitality Torex have agreed a multi million pound 3 year contract renewal
with Mitchell & Butler to continue to provide and support EPOS software and
services across their 2000 pub estate.
As well as additional software business from McDonalds, the division is pleased
to announce a major (2,800 POS terminals) new contract with Baskin Robbins Korea
Limited. The deal will cover the Baskin Robins Ice Cream, Dunkin Donuts and
Paris Croissant Brands across the Republic of Korea.
The core NewPOS business with McDonalds remains strong, with new revenues in
services and delivery and additional country deployments.
Further product development in the second half of 2006 supports a growing
pipeline of potential new customers for the product. We continue to remain
strongly positioned to win new business, with global brand QSR operators. Some
of the new and incremental business that the Group had hoped to complete in late
2006 is now, based on revised customer timescales, expected to be delivered in
early 2007.
Petroleum and Convenience
Growth in the 'P&C' division continues to be very strong, and a further £21
million of contracts have been signed in the second half of 2006.
These include wins for Asda Walmart, Tesco, Shell, BP, Maxol, Petrogas and
Statoil as well as a large number across the UK Independent Petrol Retailers
marketplace, including software, services, project management and hardware.
As part of the ongoing investment programme by Somerfield in Torex automation
Torex Retail has been awarded a further 63 sites of an anticipated 120 in 2007.
The division remains in excellent shape to continue its strong growth into 2007.
Business Update
The UK, European and Americas sales teams are actively selling the Torex Retail
strategic software solutions including Retail-J and NewPOS. In addition to the
Swarovski contract win, the Retail-J EPOS system has already been bid and is
being bid into a number of brand new contract opportunities across the Global
business, with favourable initial interest, and short-listing. Further contract
announcements are expected shortly.
The Torex Retail organization is developing and expanding the indirect
distribution channel across existing and new markets with their strategic
software solutions in the general retail, grocery and hospitality / QSR
industries. A number of distribution partners have already been signed in
existing markets and additional distribution partners are being appointed to
take the product into strategic markets, including Eastern Europe, India, China
and Latin America.
The Group's global deployment capability, largely through the current business
footprint, enhanced through key partnerships, helps to position the business
strongly to bid for and win global retailers business in both EPOS and other
related software and service areas.
The Company is currently in the process of closing its books for 31 December
2006 and expects to be able to provide a trading update on 2006 in early
February. The specific date of this announcement will be confirmed in due
course.
