Tortilla announces strategic partnership with Chartwells Universities, part of Compass Group
Tortilla Mexican Grill plc ("Tortilla"), the largest and most successful fast-casual Mexican restaurant group in the UK, today announces its partnership with Chartwells Universities, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland.
Through the strategic partnership, at least 14 Tortilla sites will be opened by Chartwells on a franchise basis across their estate of universities over the next five years.
Tortilla's highly customisable, affordable offer is already available at Middlesex University, Brunel University, Sussex University and Swansea University as part of a trial by Chartwells, with further openings planned this year.
This is the latest in Tortilla's continued expansion into new locations and formats beyond the high street, following the opening of sites at Gatwick Airport and Leeds Skelton Lakes Services, in partnership with SSP Group plc.
The agreement brings together two like-minded businesses, both of which are committed to finding greener, more sustainable ways of doing business; embracing progressive, multi-channel marketing strategies; and supplying fresh, customisable, value-for-money products that appeal to a wide range of demographics.
Andy Naylor, Chief Financial Officer of Tortilla, commented:
"We are excited to partner with Chartwells Universities and launch new sites across the UK. In recent years, we have been successful in adapting the brand for new locations and formats, and this will be another opportunity for us to showcase our ability to bring Tortilla to customers across a breadth of locations. This is an important agreement for us and will support our long-term UK growth ambitions, while driving consumer awareness within a key target demographic."

NOTES TO EDITORS
About Tortilla Mexican Grill plc
Tortilla is the largest and most successful fast-casual Mexican restaurant group in the UK specialising in the sale of freshly made Californian-inspired Mexican cuisine. The Group has 68 sites worldwide, comprising 51 sites in the UK operated by the Group, three sites franchised to SSP Group in the UK, four sites franchised to Compass Group UK & Ireland and ten franchised sites in the Middle East.
The Group was founded in 2007 by Brandon Stephens, originally from California who, upon his arrival in London in 2003, found it difficult to satisfy his desire for quality burritos and tacos. As a result, Brandon established Tortilla with a mission of offering customers freshly prepared, customisable, and authentic Californian-inspired Mexican food.
The brand is synonymous with an energetic, vibrant culture, and with providing a great value-for-money proposition. It embraces fast-growing sector trends (including eating out, healthy eating, provenance, ethnic cuisine, delivery) across a variety of locations, through a differentiated product offering which is popular with a broad customer base, and a clearly defined multi-channel marketing strategy. It benefits from flexible site locations and formats, and a scalable central infrastructure.
