Application for the listing of new shares

Application has been made by TOTAL S.A. to the UK Listing Authority and the London Stock Exchange for the admission of 1,405,591 ordinary shares of TOTAL S.A., par value 2.5 euros per share, including (i) 1,178,167 shares, par value 2.5 euros per share, issued from January to December 2008 in connection with the exercise of TOTAL S.A.'s share subscription option plans, (ii) 227,424 shares, par value 2.5 euros per share, issued from January to December 2008 in connection with the exchange guarantee granted to Elf Aquitaine employees.

Dealings in these shares will become effective from December 7, 2009.
