                    Market Purchase of Company's Own Shares



Notification is given that pursuant to the authority granted at the Annual
General Meeting of the Company held on 24 July 2007 to make market purchases of
the Company's own ordinary shares of 25p, a market purchase of 350,000 ordinary
shares of 25p each in the capital of the Company was made today at an average
price of 202.9p per share.

Following this purchase and cancellation there will be 261,600,000 ordinary
shares of 25p each and 131,795,747 Sigma shares of 12.5p each in issue.

The capital of the Company with full voting rights is now 393,395,747. This
figure may be used as the denominator for calculations of interests in the
Company's voting rights.
