Orlando Sanford International Airport
TBI plc, the owner and operator of regional airports and related businesses
announces an agreement with Britannia Airways, part of the Preussag Group
which also owns Thomson Holidays, to return to Orlando Sanford International
Airport (Sanford) in January 2002. This agreement marks a return of Britannia
Airways from Orlando International Airport. The relocation of Britannia is
part of an agreement that will make Sanford, Britannia's Orlando gateway for
at least the next seven years for all its UK business. Britannia will operate
315-seat B767-300ER aircraft between Sanford and the United Kingdom.
Britannia is expected to increase the airport's traffic by over 80,000
passengers per year.
Britannia Airways is the fourth airline this year to sign agreements to use
Sanford. Vacation Express; Aeropostal and American Trans Air also signed to
use Sanford earlier this year. Airport Council International (ACI) ranked
Sanford as the fastest growing North American airport in 2000, among airports
with one million or more annual passengers.
Larry Gouldthorpe, President of Orlando Sanford, remarked, 'We are pleased
Britannia has rejoined our family of airlines and we appreciate their
confidence in us to provide them with the highest level of service over the
next seven years. We have always believed that we provide the best airport
facilities for UK holiday makers traveling to Orlando. Bringing Britannia back
to Orlando Sanford will solidify the airport as the state's largest gateway
for U.K. visitors.'
easyJet Growth at London Luton Airport
TBI is also pleased to announce that easyJet traffic through London Luton
Airport grew during October and November 2001. The total easyJet passenger
traffic during October and November, at London Luton increased by 4.5% to
701,586 from the same period the previous year (671,079 passengers).
TBI recently announced the signing of a new long term 20 year agreement
between TBI and easyJet, with effect from 1 October 2001. This agreement
offers a reduced landing charge for any growth in traffic as an incentive to
easyJet to increase passenger numbers.
Belfast Passenger Figures for November 2001
Following the reduction of bmi British Midland services and the withdrawal of
British Airways flights on the Heathrow-Belfast service from 28 October 2001,
TBI announces the passenger figures for Belfast International for November
2001. Overall passenger figures are up from 219,070 to 235,010, an increase
of 7.3% on the previous year. This increase in passenger numbers comes
primarily from easyJet and Go Fly.
Keith Brooks, CEO of TBI commented; 'This is great news to show that we are
continuing to make progress in each and every airport and we have again
demonstrated that we can win back airlines with our superb facilities and
strong reputation for service. This yet again confirms our belief in our
strategy to focus on regional airports.'
