Travis Perkins reports sales up nine per cent in first four months
'Total sales of Travis Perkins, one of the UK's leading builders' merchants,
were up nine per cent in the first four months of the current year compared with
the same period of 2001, with like for like sales showing a six per cent
improvement', chairman Tim Stevenson told shareholders at the company's Annual
General Meeting in London today.
'We are pleased with this strong start to 2002 although it is flattered by the
fact that trading in the equivalent period last year was relatively weak,
showing only a two per cent like for sales increase.'
Mr Stevenson also reported that since the end of last year the group has added
20 more branches to its network bringing the total up to 522 by the end of
April.
On the outlook, he added: 'While our market must remain sensitive to any future
rise in interest rates we nevertheless anticipate steady growth and a year of
good progress for the group.'
