Appointment of Non-Executive Director & Chairman Designate

Travis Perkins announces that it has appointed Robert Walker as a non-executive director and it is the board's intention that he will succeed Tim Stevenson as non-executive Chairman with effect from the conclusion of the next Annual General Meeting in May 2010.

Robert Walker is currently Chairman of WH Smith PLC, BCA Europe Ltd (British Car Auctions), Americana International Holdings Ltd and a non-executive director of Tate & Lyle PLC. 

He has previously been Chairman of Williams Lea Group Ltd, Chief Executive of Severn Trent Plc, and a non-executive director of BAA Plc, Signet Group Plc, Thomson Travel Group Plc and Wolseley plc. 

His early career was spent at Proctor & Gamble and McKinsey & Co and he then spent over 20 years with Pepsi Co Inc, culminating as Division President.  

Commenting on the appointment, Tim Stevenson said:

'As our shareholders would expect, we have conducted a thorough search for my successor as Chairman. The board is now pleased to confirm that Robert Walker has accepted the board's invitation to become a non executive director and to become non-executive Chairman in May next year.

There is no other information in relation to Mr. Walker's appointment to disclose under Rule 9.6.13 of the Listing Rules.
