Development of New Steering Wheel Sensor
TT electronics, a world leader in resistor and sensor technology, announces it
is to develop a new range of steering wheel sensors following a licensing
agreement with Transense Technologies.
TT electronics is a global leader in the development of steering wheel
sensors, which it commenced manufacturing in 1999. It is currently producing
in excess of 600,000 units annually, which following recent contract wins will
increase to over 1.7million units by 2004.
TT electronics has recently acquired a license from Transense Technologies for
the use of its patented Surface Acoustic Wave technology to develop next
generation electric power steering sensors, which will reduce overall system
costs and improve reliability.
TT electronics steering sensors complement the company's wide range of
automotive sensors and systems which include electronic pedal module sensors,
chassis height sensors and a wide range of position sensors.
John Newman, Chairman of TT electronics plc, commented:
'TT electronics has already established world leadership in sensor technology
and has successfully gained first mover advantage within the steering wheel
sensor market which is reflected in our strong forward order book. The licence
to manufacture an additional range of steering wheel sensors will ensure TT
electronics remains at the forefront of a market which industry sources
estimate will grow to over 20 million units by 2010.'
