Sarantel secures two design wins in the GPS Tracker market
Sarantel (AIM: SLG), the leading manufacturer of revolutionary filtering
antennas for mobile and wireless devices, has secured two design wins in the
personal GPS tracker market for its GeoHelix antenna technology.
A personal tracker combines the standard features of a mobile phone with
state-of-the-art GPS technology, targeting the needs of the emerging personal
safety and asset monitoring markets. In addition to standard mobile phone
functionality (voice call, SMS, etc.) a personal tracker supports a variety of
GPS navigation and tracking modes. It comes in a very compact slim-line and
lightweight package and can be used for many applications including work force
management, lone worker protection, VIP monitoring, asset tracking, fleet
management and personal navigation systems.
Sarantel's GeoHelix antenna has been designed in two trackers:
• The Falcom Mambo II Mobile phone and Tracker, and
• The Teltonika GH1200 GPS tracker
The GeoHelix antenna was selected for its small size, omni-directionality and
high performance when hand-held. Unlike other antennas, the GeoHelix does not
detune when hand loaded and because the antenna has the broadest beam-width
possible, satellites are detected at all angles of the horizon no matter the
orientation of the device. The customers were also pleased with its ease of
integration in the device, enabling them to save engineering time and resources,
and accelerating their time-to-market.
David Wither, CEO of Sarantel says:
'We are delighted that our GeoHelix antenna has been selected for these two
combined mobile phone and GPS tracker devices. Used as a standard component, our
customers can integrate our antenna into their devices very easily and hence
reduce their risk. These design wins provide further evidence that our
technology enables GPS devices to deliver high performance in a small hand held
package, which reflects the consumer trends in the GPS market.'
Notes to Editors:
Sarantel is a leader in the design of high-performance miniature antennas for
portable wireless applications including hand-held navigation, satellite radio
and laptop computers.
Sarantel's revolutionary ceramic filtering antennas offer dramatically improved
performance over existing antenna designs, resulting in a clearer signal, better
range and a 90 per cent reduction in the amount of signal radiation absorbed by
the body.
Because of their smaller size and higher capabilities, Sarantel's antennas
enable manufacturers to create innovative high-volume consumer products
incorporating technologies such as GPS, Wi-Fi, WiMax, 3G, GPRS, Satellite Radio
and Bluetooth.
