Production orders for two M2M asset tracking applications
Sarantel Group PLC (AIM: SLG, 'Sarantel' or 'the Group'), a leading manufacturer of high-performance, miniature filtering antennas for mobile and wireless devices, has received initial production orders for two separate M2M (machine-to-machine) asset tracking applications.
Sarantel's technology was selected for both applications because the omni-directional capability of its GPS antenna enables the M2M device to be attached in any orientation and this greatly reduces installation complexity.
The first application is for an M2M device selected by a major US airline company to track all its cargo shipments in real time to provide customers with real time information on all high value shipments. The second application is for an M2M device selected by a leading US manufacturer of premium commercial vehicles to be embedded in its vehicles, enabling the vehicle owners to track the location of the vehicles and thereby enhancing efficiency.
Industry analyst Berg Insight estimates that the number of cellular network connections worldwide used for machine-to-machine communication will grow from 108.0 million connections in 2011 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27.2 percent to 359.3 million connections in 2016. A significant percentage of these M2M devices will use GPS in order to provide the geographical location.
David Wither, CEO of Sarantel, said:
"We are delighted that our technology has been selected for both these highly innovative products. The location information that GPS provides is becoming increasingly valuable in a growing number of applications. As this trend gains momentum, the requirement for a reliable GPS device that is easy to install is becoming crucial."
