UNITE AND BT ANNOUNCE STUDENT BROADBAND PARTNERSHIP
The UNITE Group plc, the UK's largest provider of accommodation for students,
today announced a partnership with BT to provide a new high-speed broadband
internet service for students.
The new service is to be marketed to UNITE's customers under the brand name
'uBroadband' and will be available for 15,000 of its customers this September.
'uBroadband' will replace the existing dial-up service and it is planned to
extend the service further as UNITE's portfolio continues to grow.
The BT service is based end-to-end on products and solutions from Cisco Systems,
the worldwide leader in networking for the internet. It offers subscribers a
secure, 'always on', up to 512kbps broadband internet access service. The
service is priced competitively at £5 per week, with no set up charges, to
ensure affordability for UNITE's customers.
Nicholas Porter, Chief Executive Officer at UNITE said: 'We have set out to
become first choice for student accommodation by providing customer-focused,
value-added services. Our research shows that some 70% of our customers want a
value for money high-speed broadband service available in their rooms, and this
is just what we've set out to do, with BT as the ideal partner.'
Caroline Ward, Director of BT Global Solutions said: 'We are delighted that
UNITE has chosen BT as its partner for this exciting venture. We feel we are
best placed to provide an innovative solution to meet UNITE's ongoing business
needs.'
The use of the words 'partner' and 'partnership' in this communication does not
give rise to a partnership between BT and UNITE as defined in the Partnership
Act 1890.
