Unite Group PLC 16 January 2006 THE UNITE GROUP PLC 16 January 2006 The UNITE Group plc (the 'Company') The Company has been informed that Mr Nicholas Porter, Chief Executive Officer of the Company, gifted 26,882 ordinary shares of 25p each in the capital of the Company (representing 0.022% of its issued share capital), to Uniaid Foundation ('Uniaid') on 13 January 2006. Mr Porter gifted the shares to Uniaid (which is a registered charity), for the purpose of enabling it to move towards the next stage of its development. Uniaid was set up to help students overcome the financial hurdles to higher education. The Company has today also been informed that Mr Porter gifted a further 26,882 ordinary shares of 25p each in the capital of the Company (again representing 0.022% of its issued share capital), to the Red Shoes Charitable Trust on 13 January 2006. The Red Shoes Charitable Trust (which is again a registered charity), was set up for the purpose of helping disadvantaged and disabled children. Following the transfer of the above referred to shares, Mr Porter is interested in 12,117,485 shares in the Company, representing 9.95% of its issued share capital. Included in those interests are (a) 966,000 shares held by the Trustees of The Porter Family Discretionary Trust (the beneficiaries of which are Mr Porter's children); (b) 253,140 shares held by the Trustees of the Jane Louise Discretionary Settlement (the beneficiaries of which are, again, Mr Porter's children); and (c) 147,882 shares held by the Trustees of the Red Shoes Charitable Trust (one of whom is Heather Porter, Mr Porter's wife).
