RICHARD WALKER JOINS BOARD OF UNITE





The Board of The UNITE Group plc, the UK's largest provider of student
accommodation, is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Walker as an
additional non-executive director of the Company with effect from 3rd November
2005.



Richard, 39, is Chief Operating Officer of Carphone Warehouse UK, with
responsibility for the Group's 500 UK stores, websites, direct sales and
insurance services. Richard was previously Managing Director for Carphone
Warehouse's European retail business, operating in 14 countries, and UK Sales
Director. He holds a law degree from Nottingham University and trained as an
accountant with Coopers and Lybrand.



Commenting on the appointment, Geoffrey Maddrell, Chairman of UNITE, said:



'We are delighted that Richard has agreed to join the Board. He brings with him
significant operations and sales and marketing experience in a fast growing,
branded, values led business.'



Following Richard Walker's appointment, the UNITE Board comprises three
executive and four non-executive directors.



There are no further details required to be disclosed in pursuant to paragraph
9.16.13 of the UKLA Listing Rules.
