BOARD APPOINTMENT
Cookson Group plc, the international materials technology group, is pleased to
announce that Barry W. Perry, 55, will join the Board as a non-executive
Director on 1 January 2002. Mr. Perry is currently Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of Engelhard Corporation ('Engelhard'). He has been on the
Board of Engelhard since May 1997. Engelhard is a US based surface and
materials science company that develops technologies to improve customers'
products and processes. Mr. Perry previously held senior executive positions
with Rhone Poulenc and with General Electric Co in the USA.
Mr Perry is also a Non-executive Director of Arrow Electronics Inc.

a degree in Plastics Engineering. He is married with three daughters and his
interests include collecting antique British guns, cycling and walking.
