Cookson Group plc, the international materials technology
group, is pleased to announce that Richard Haythornthwaite,
42, will join the Board as a non-executive Director on 1
November 1999.  Mr. Haythornthwaite is currently Group Chief
Executive of Blue Circle Industries PLC ('Blue Circle'). He
has been on the Board of Blue Circle since 1997, prior to
which he was a director of Premier Oil plc.

Mr. Haythornthwaite is also Chairman of the British American
Arts Association.
