COOKSON GROUP plc ANNOUNCEMENT

In order to give shareholders a considered and timely view of trading
conditions in the third quarter and to allow management to assess business
trends during the important trading month of September, in particular the
impact of last week's tragic events in the USA, the Company will provide a
trading update on 5 October 2001. This will replace the normal third quarter
update which was scheduled for release in early November. With regard to
trading in July and August, conditions remained difficult, especially in the
Company's Electronics division.
