ANNUAL TRADING UPDATE
The Company announces its trading update for the year ended 30 September 2005.
Sales volume for the year grew by 9% to approximately 1,972 tonnes (2004: 1,802
tonnes). Second half sales volume of around 984 tonnes was in line with 988
tonnes for the first half.
•United States full year sales volume of 608 tonnes was in line with the
previous year (605 tonnes) following a strong recovery in second half sales
volume to 327 tonnes, up 16% from 281 tonnes in the first half.
•Asia-Pacific sales volume of 395 tonnes for the year was up 36% on 2004
(291 tonnes). Second half sales volume of 185 tonnes was 12% lower than the
record first half performance of 210 tonnes.
•At 969 tonnes, European sales volume was 7% up on the previous year (906
tonnes) although second half sales volume of 472 tonnes was 5% down on the
first half (497 tonnes).
As noted in the September update, Invibio, our medical implant materials
business, has performed ahead of expectations and we now expect that its sales
revenue will be broadly in line with the first half performance of £5.4m. As a
result, Group gross margin for the full year should be similar to the first
half.
The preliminary announcement of the Company's results for the year ended 30
September 2005 will be made on Tuesday 6 December 2005.
