LAND INVESTMENT AND TRADING UPDATE
Land Investment
Bovis Homes has purchased land to build a new village in
Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
The site is located off the A1 in a prime development area
which is part of the 755 acres of land being successfully
developed by Arlington Securities as a high technology
business park including university campus, hotel, school,
shopping and offices. The site, which has the benefit of
outline planning consent, is adjacent to Ellenbrook Park, a
major amenity area which extends to over 400 acres.
Infrastructure works are due to start this summer with housing
construction targeted to commence in 2002. The Group
anticipates building approximately 750 high quality dwellings.
This new investment is part of our planned expansion and will
contribute strongly to our trading results over the coming
years.
Following this purchase the consented land bank as at 30 June
2001 was 11,005 plots, an increase of 872 plots compared with
31 December 2000.
Strategic land investment has also increased and as at 30 June
2001 stood at 20,016 potential plots, an addition of 2,000
compared with the position at the end of last year.
Trading Update
Trading results to 30 June 2001 are in line with our
expectations. Cumulative sales to the half year are ahead of
the comparable period in 2000 as are sales prices.
As advised at the time of the announcement of our preliminary
results on 12 March 2001 and re-affirmed at our annual general
meeting on 1 May 2001 the split of profits between the first
and second half of the year will be more weighted towards the
latter period.
Based upon current market conditions continuing the Board
remains confident of achieving a successful full year's set of
trading results. Interim results are expected to be announced
on 10 September 2001.
