US DIRECTOR LEAVES VODAFONE AIRTOUCH
Vodafone AirTouch Plc today announced that Mohan Gyani, a
director of the Company, has given notice to resign from the
Board and it has been agreed that he will leave the Company on
30 September.
Mr Gyani has decided to accept the position as President and
Chief Financial Officer of PeoplePC, a new membership services
company that enables consumers to combine the rewards of
personal computing and the Internet. PeoplePC is based in San
Francisco.
Chris Gent, Chief Executive of Vodafone AirTouch Plc
commented: 'After a distinguished 20-year career in
telecommunications, Mohan has decided to focus his significant
talents and energy in a new career direction. A major
contributor to the success of AirTouch, Mohan can count among
his many contributions his credibility with Wall Street, and
the key role he played in negotiations that enabled the merger
with Vodafone and the just announced transaction with Bell
Atlantic. We are very disappointed that he has decided to
leave, but we entirely understand the personal factors behind
his decision. We wish him every success.'
Prior to the recent Vodafone AirTouch merger, Mr Gyani held
the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer at AirTouch. He was appointed to a new Board position
as head of Strategy and Corporate Development when the
transaction became effective on 30 June 1999.
There is no immediate intention to appoint a replacement for
Mr Gyani. His responsibilities for strategy and corporate
development are being assumed by Chris Gent and his
responsibility for procurement co-ordination will be
transferred to Ken Hydon, Group Financial Director.
