EU Approves Sale of Orange

                  EU APPROVES SALE OF ORANGE


Vodafone  AirTouch Plc announces that it has been notified  by
the  Commission of the European Communities Merger Task  Force
that  approval  has been given for France Telecom  to  be  the
purchaser of Orange.

The  purchase of Orange by France Telecom remains  subject  to
the approval of the Commission.
