                    WALKER, CRIPS, WEDDLE, BECK PLC ('WCWB')
                             PURCHASE OF OWN SHARES

WCWB announces that, in accordance with the authority granted by shareholders at
the Annual General Meeting held on 9 July 2004, it has today purchased in the
market, to be held as Treasury Shares, 150,000 of its Ordinary Shares of 20p
each ('Ordinary Shares') at a price of 115p per share.

There remains 10,707,654 Ordinary Shares in issue, including the 150,000 held as
Treasury Shares.

For reporting purposes under section 198 of the Companies Act 1985 the market
should exclude any shares held as Treasury Shares, giving an issued share
capital for that purpose of 10,557,654 shares.
