As regulatory developments have become an increasingly important strategic driver for Wärtsilä businesses, Wärtsilä has decided to strengthen its activities to enhance and promote the policy framework fostering the strategic business targets.
The following appointments have been made within Wärtsilä Corporation's Board of Management, with effect from 1 January 2012:
Mr. Kari Hietanen (48) LLM, currently Group Vice President for Legal Affairs and HR, has been appointed Group Vice President, Corporate Relations and Legal. His responsibilities also include Sustainability & EOHS (Environment, Occupational Health and Safety) and Intellectual Asset Management. Mr. Hietanen has worked for Wärtsilä since 1989, and he has been a member of the Board of Management since 2002.
Ms. Päivi Castrén (53) MSc (Soc.Sc.), has been appointed Group Vice President Human Resources and a member of the Board of Management. Ms. Castrén has worked as Vice President Human Resources for Wärtsilä since 2005.
With these appointments Wärtsilä aims to further its emphasis on being a preferred employer with first rate global HR practices, and on being recognized for its innovative operations and technologies.
