AGM Statement

Weir Group PLC 12 May 2004 Embargoed until 12.10 pm on 12 May 2004 The Weir Group PLC 110th Annual General Meeting Wednesday 12 May 2004 The following is the text of the statement delivered by the Chairman, Sir Robert Smith, at this year's AGM. The Group's performance in the first quarter of 2004 was in line with expectations as set out in the annual report and I can report that the improvement in the level of orders booked in the second half of 2003 has continued into 2004. New orders in the Engineering Products' businesses continue to support our confidence in an improving performance in the second half of the year. The Minerals Division was successful in winning further contracts in China and our end markets remain encouraging. The Services Division has experienced good rates of enquiry with orders booked being 5.6% above the level reported in the first quarter of 2003. Our Techna Division has continued to win contracts in the first quarter including the design and installation of sulphate removal packages for a number of customers globally including South America and the UK North Sea oil sector. I can also confirm that the operational initiatives, new product development and geographic expansion we saw in 2003 continue to add to our business and, together with the stronger order book, support the improving outlook presented earlier in the year. As in previous years, most of the progress is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2004 with the first half broadly in line with the same period in 2003.
