Weir Group PLC
22 March 2000
APPOINTMENTS
The Weir Group PLC, the international engineering company, has announced the
appointments of Alan Mitchelson as company secretary and Jim Cox as a
non-executive director both with effect from yesterday, 21st March 2000.
Also, Bobby Bertram, a non-executive director of the company since 1983, is
due to retire by rotation at the annual general meeting on 17th May 2000 and
has decided not to seek re-appointment.
Mr Mitchelson, a qualified solicitor and formerly company secretary with
Highland Distillers plc, succeeds Bill Harkness, secretary since 1977 and who
intimated some time ago his intention not to continue until his normal
retirement date. Mr Harkness will remain as a director in order to ensure a
smooth transfer of responsibilities to Mr Mitchelson.
Mr Cox, a graduate of Cambridge University, was formerly a director and head
of UK Equity Strategy of Schroder Investment Management Limited and prior to
that an assistant director of Prudential Portfolio Managers.
