LORD ROBERTSON TO JOIN THE WEIR GROUP PLC AS NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR




The Weir Group PLC announces the appointment of Lord Robertson of Port Ellen,
currently Secretary General of NATO, as a non-executive director. The
appointment will take effect from 1 February 2004.


Lord Robertson is due to leave his position with NATO in December this year
following a four year tenure.


The Weir Group chairman, Sir Robert Smith, said: 'Throughout his political
career, particularly as Defence Secretary, and more recently at NATO, George
Robertson has had a significant international involvement. This experience will
bring considerable value to our board, as we continue to develop Weir's global
strategy, particularly in opening up new markets in developing territories.


'We are extremely pleased that he has agreed to join us in a non-executive
capacity. He has a reputation for clarity of vision and strong strategic skills
and these will be an excellent complement to the considerable range of
industrial and financial expertise currently existing on The Weir Group board. '


There is no information to be disclosed under the requirements of the Listing
Rule 16.4 in relation to this appointment.
