Fidelity International Limited of Bermuda ('Fidelity') notified The Weir Group
PLC ('the Company') on 14 April 2004 that its material interest now totalled a
holding of 7,125,937 ordinary shares in the Company representing 3.48% of the
Company's issued share capital as detailed in the table below, and that such
notification also comprised the interest of Edward C. Johnson III as a principal
shareholder of Fidelity.

The notification of change is due to a purchase of 2,029,840 ordinary shares.

Percentage holdings are calculated using an issued share capital of 204,550,220
ordinary shares of GBP0.125.
