Fidelity International Limited of Bermuda ('Fidelity') and FMR Corp notified The
Weir Group PLC ('the Company') on 12 October 2004 that their material interest
now totalled a holding of 16,378,749 ordinary shares in the Company representing
8.01% of the Company's issued share capital as detailed in the table below, and
that such notification also comprised the interest of Edward C. Johnson III as a
principal shareholder of Fidelity and FMR Corp.

The notification of change is due to a purchase of 1,444,673 ordinary shares.

Percentage holdings are calculated using an issued share capital of 204,550,200
ordinary shares of GBP0.125.
