Fidelity International Limited of Bermuda ('Fidelity') and FMR Corp notified The
Weir Group PLC ('the Company') on 11 March 2005 that their material interest now
totalled a holding of 24,906,029 ordinary shares in the Company representing
12.04% of the Company's issued share capital as detailed in the table below and
that such notification also comprised the interest of Edward C. Johnson lll as
principal shareholder of Fidelity and FMR Corp.

The notification of change is due to a purchase of 2,180,991 ordinary shares.

Percentage holdings are calculated using an issued share capital of 206,820,067
ordinary shares of GBP0125
