Weir Defence, Nuclear & Gas Division wins contracts totalling over £75 million
The Weir Group PLC is pleased to announce that its Defence Nuclear & Gas
Division has been awarded contracts totalling over £75 million.
Bristol based Weir Strachan and Henshaw has been awarded a £37 million contract
from Navantia to design and supply the Weapon Launch System for the Spanish
Navy's new submarine fleet. The System will enable these new boats to carry and
launch state-of-the-art torpedoes and underwater weapons. The first of four
submarines is planned to enter service in 2012.
The contract recognises Weir Strachan & Henshaw's capability to develop
world-class systems for major submarine projects.
In Edinburgh, Weir LGE Process has been awarded contracts to the value of £40
million by Hyundai Heavy Industries for the design and supply of gas handling
equipment on eleven new LPG carriers. The carriers will be constructed at
Hyundai's Korean shipyards for Norwegian ship owner, Solvang, German owner GOIC
and Petrodec of Monaco. The contracts also include the supervision of
installation, commissioning and start-up of the cargo handling plants. The ships
are due for delivery between 2007 and 2009.
Mark Selway, chief executive of The Weir Group PLC said: 'We are delighted with
these new orders. While minimal impact can be expected in 2006 and 2007, these
contracts provide a further catalyst for growth in our Defence, Nuclear & Gas
Division in 2008 and beyond.'
