Sanitisation Tunnel & increasing passenger numbers
for Freetown International Airport, Sierra Leone
Westminster Group Plc (AIM: WSG), a leading supplier of managed services and technology-based security solutions worldwide, is pleased to announce that the Westminster Foundation has successfully delivered and installed a sanitisation tunnel to Freetown International Airport (FNA), Sierra Leone. The Westminster Group provides security and screening services for this airport, and earlier this year the Group promised to provide a mass sanitisation tunnel for the airport.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the Westminster Foundation works provides support and assistance to communities in which the Company operates.
The Director General of Sierra Leone Civil Aviation, Mr. Moses Tiffa Baio, described the provision of the sanitisation tunnel as 'A promise made, a promise delivered', further strengthening Westminster's relationship with the airport and local government.
Sanitisation is one of the key elements in the fight to reduce the transmission of coronavirus. The tunnel has been greatly received and will help increase stakeholder and passenger confidence that FNA is a COVID secure environment thereby encouraging larger passenger numbers through the airport.
FNA has seen a steady increase in passenger numbers since international flights were resumed in July this year and in the last few days confirmation has been received that further airlines are recommencing operations in December and current airlines are increasing their flight schedules in line with previous operational levels.
Commenting on developments, Joanna Fowler - Head of Managed Services Division for the Westminster Group and Trustee of the Westminster Foundation, stated:
"The COVID 19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect on the aviation industry and Westminster is at the forefront in the fight to mitigate the impact on business and travel worldwide.
"We are pleased to be able to assist the authorities in improving the safety, as well as the security, of the airport and are equally pleased to see passengers and airlines returning."
