Application has been made to The UK Listing Authority and the London Stock
Exchange for block listings totalling 4,336,053 Ordinary shares of 2 13/81p each
to trade on the London Stock Exchange and to be admitted to the Official List
upon issuance.



The Block listings consist of 428,534 shares to be issued under the WH Smith
Group Sharesave Scheme, 1,306,058 shares under the WH Smith Sharesave Scheme
1999, 1,908,433 shares under the WH Smith Executive Share Option Scheme 1999 and
693,028 shares to be issued under the WH Smith Executive Share Option Scheme.
Dealings are expected to commence on 27 September,2004.
