                            WH Smith PLC ('WHSmith')
                             New credit facilities

WHSmith announces the agreement of new £270m three-year credit facilities with
HSBC, Lloyds TSB and The Royal Bank of Scotland acting as Mandated Lead
Arrangers, Underwriters and Bookrunners. Barclays is an additional Arranger.
Lloyds TSB is the Facility Agent. The facilities are to be syndicated in due
course. Cazenove acted as Debt Financial Adviser to WHSmith.
