Announcement re: Connect2U
                                       
In  June 2000, WH Smith PLC ('WHSmith') announced that it had entered into  an
agreement  with Axon Group plc ('Axon') to establish a joint venture  company,
Connect2U Limited ('Connect2U').

Axon  has today exercised a put option to sell its entire holding in Connect2U
to  WHSmith and as a consequence, WHSmith now owns the entire share capital of
Connect2U.
