WHITBREAD HOLDINGS PLC ('the Company')

Application has been made to the London Stock Exchange for a  block listing of
3,000,000 shares of £4.50 each to be admitted to the Official List upon exercise
of options pursuant to the Company's 1981 Savings Related Share Option Scheme,
Whitbread 1985, 1995 No. 1 and 1995 No. 2, Executive Share Option Schemes.  The
shares when allotted will rank pari passu with the existing issued voting
ordinary shares of the company.
