                         Block Listing

                         
Application has been made by the Company to the UK Listing Authority of the
Financial Services Authority, and to the London Stock Exchange plc for the Block
listing of 2,000,000 ordinary shares of 50p each ('ordinary Shares') fully paid,
ranking pari passu with the existing Ordinary Shares.


It is expected that, 2,000,000 Ordinary Shares will be allotted and issued in
due course pursuant to the rules of the Whitbread PLC approved and unapproved
Executive Share Option Scheme.
