Whitbread PLC - senior independent non-executive director appointment


Whitbread PLC announces the appointment of Rod Kent as the company's senior
independent non-executive director.

Mr Kent, 55, joined the Whitbread board in September 2002.  He stepped down as
Managing Director of Close Brothers Group in October, 2002 and is currently
chairman of Bradford & Bingley plc and Grosvenor Ltd.  He is also chairman of
Whitbread Pension Trustees Limited.
