Whitbread - re-directorate
The board of Whitbread PLC announces that David Richardson has decided to retire
as Finance Director at the end of April 2005. Mr Richardson has been a director
of the company since 1996 and became Finance Director in 2001.
Sir John Banham, Chairman, said: 'David has been one of the principal architects
of Whitbread's success in recent years. He played a leading role in shaping
what has become the country's foremost hospitality business as well as guiding
its much improved financial performance.
'We regret his decision to retire early but fully understand his reasons. He
will go with every good wish from his colleagues on the board and throughout the
company.'
David Richardson said: 'I have long nursed the ambition of retiring while I am
young enough to do a range of other things. April next year will enable me to
do this and gives ample time to hand over the reins to my successor. I've
thoroughly enjoyed my time at Whitbread and feel privileged to have played a
part in its transition. I'll be leaving a company that's in very good shape and
well poised for the future.'
The board will make an announcement about David Richardson's successor in due
course.
