WHITBREAD APPOINTS NEW NON EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


Whitbread PLC has today announced the appointment of Wendy Becker as a Non
Executive Director.  She will join the Board with immediate effect.


Wendy Becker (42) is a Partner at McKinsey & Company where she is retiring after
14 years serving leading consumer-related companies across Europe, the US and
Asia.  Most recently, she has led the UK Consumer Practice and has been a member
of the firm's UK Operating Committee.  She began her career working for Procter
& Gamble as a brand manager in Cincinnati and also worked at the Boston
Consulting Group in San Francisco.

Wendy to our Board.   Wendy has a broad understanding and experience of consumer
retailing and international strategy and I am sure that she will make a valuable
